From Seasonal Gardens to Year Round Social Spaces
Across the UK, gardens are being rethought as year round living spaces rather than seasonal retreats. Instead of being used occasionally in warmer months, they are increasingly designed as extensions of the home, built around entertaining, relaxing and hosting.
In Bristol, one homeowner has embraced this shift by creating a dedicated garden gin bar using a G3 garden room by Green Retreats. Designed entirely around social use, the space moves away from traditional garden room functions and instead takes its cues from hospitality interiors.
“We wanted to create a space that captured the atmosphere of a bar, but within our own home. It has completely changed how we use the garden, especially for hosting friends and family. It feels less like a garden room and more like somewhere you’d actually go for a drink.”
Inside, the design centres on a bespoke bar, layered with deep lounge seating, bar inspired finishes and soft ambient lighting. Large sliding glass doors open directly onto the garden, allowing the space to shift naturally between open daytime living and intimate evening hosting.
